Dematting Policy

While we are happy to remove light tangles and a small amount of mats under certain circumstances when it is able to be done without discomfort to your pet; under no circumstances will we put any animal through the painful and time consuming process of dematting in severe cases or when it is covering more than 5% of the body.

Mats left in a pet's coat only grow tighter and can strangle the pet's skin or eventually tear it open. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet's skin allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow -causing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. After effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted

irritations or abrasions, and failure of hair regrowth. Shaved pets are also prone to sunburn and

should be kept out of the sun until the hair grows sufficiently to protect the skin.

In some cases pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes.

Prevention is the best defense against matting by brushing regularly at home and scheduling regular grooming appointments.

Your options in the case of matting are to allow us to shave your pet down to the length we deem safe and appropriate or to take them home and find a Pet Groomer who doesn't put animal welfare first.
